Elissa Stevens, LMFT

Marriage and Family Therapist

First and foremost I work from a systemic perspective. Very few of us live in a vacuum; most of us are part of larger systems such as families and communities that affect who we are and how we move through the world. I work with individuals, partners, and families to overcome the transgenerational effects of trauma, addiction and attachment injuries, and to begin to change deeply held habits and patterns. People often develop their own survival strategies for dealing with adverse experiences from the past, and have reached a point in their lives where these strategies have stopped working.

I believe the only way to truly create more successful habits and patterns is through the integration of the brain and body. The brain is plastic and can create new neural pathways — this allows for the possibility of recovery! However, we must never forget that the brain and body are one unit and must work together to create a healthy system. In my work I combine practices and methods in a way that directly supports this integration, which is crucial to recovery from trauma and addiction and creating a new path towards the best version of yourself.

The methods and practices I use include:

  • Cognitive Somatic Integration Training©
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy
  • Systemic Family Therapy
  • Narrative Therapy
  • Attachment Theory
  • Somatic Experiencing
  • Traumatic memory processing methods, including EMDR
  • Mindfulness Practices
